The New Patriotic Party has elected Charles Opoku in its primary to lead the party in the upcoming Assin North by-election slated for June 27, 2023.

Certified results by the Electoral Commission says Mr. Opoku polled an overwhelming 397 votes out of the 533 total valid votes cast at the end of the primary at Assin Akomfode.

His contender, Freeman Amoah-Kyei obtained 136 votes.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the NPP Justin Koduah Frimpong after the election called for unity among the supporters of the contestants to wrestle the Assin North seat which has been declared vacant by the Speaker of Parliament following a Supreme Court order to expunge the former MP’s details from the House’s records.
