Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, says he is not going to leave the party he contributed to build as its leadership is saying.
The leadership says it has invoked necessary provisions in its constitution to kick the former Environment Minister out of the party for making comments it deems disparaging.
Responding to the National Executive Committee’ (NEC) move to expel him for labelling the current party structure as “fake”, the former CEO of the Korle Bu Cardiothoracic Centre said the current leadership of the party are the ones supposed to be shown the exit and not him.
“No! I’m not leaving the party; they should [rather] leave the party [because] they are the fake ones. They should go away and the true party will stand,” he said on Asempa FM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
He added that appearing before the disciplinary committee of the party will be a waste of time, indicating his unreadiness to defend the comments he made.
“I will not honour any invitation from the NEC to waste my time,” he added, signalling a total breakdown in his relationship with the party’s administrative wing.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described the re-election of certain leaders as a train wreck and characterised the party’s direction as fundamentally destroyed in a recent interview.
His criticism is hinged on the premise that the NPP has drifted from its fundamental principles of liberal conservatism and institutional integrity.
According to him, the NPP is currently on its way to destruction and can only be reversed by eliminating the “fake” elements at the hem of control.
He argued that the party is currently in a state of terminal decline that can only be reversed by a complete purge of the “fake” elements at the top.
“We must accept that the NPP is destroyed; this was not how the party was in years past,” he said, adding that the “fake” leaders “should exit so that the young men and women with love for the party will rebuild.”
Critics within the party, led by General Secretary Justin Frimpong-Kodua, have accused the Professor of “anti-party behaviour” and public disparagement, which they claim violates the NPP Constitution.
However, supporters of the Professor argue that his “tell-all” approach—which began with his infamous report on illegal mining (galamsey)—is a necessary cleansing fire for a party currently grappling with internal divisions ahead of its January 31 presidential primary.
