Chief of Okwenya in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Nene Sakinor Olepeme has rejected attempts by the Managing Director of the ECG to chair a committee that is to look into the impasse between them and residents of Kroboland.

According to Nene Olepeme, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama has asked that he be made leader of the committee.

But the chiefs and residents say Mr. Dubik cannot be a judge in his own cause since he is an interested party in the ongoing issue.

Nene was speaking with Yaa Titi Okrah on Onua TV/FM’s Maakye Thursday, August 11, 2022, sharing what transpired between the delegation from the presidency and chiefs of Kroboland.

“Energy ministry says we should form a committee and the ECG boss wants to chair. But we said no they should appoint a neutral person bcos u can’t be a judge in your own cause.”

Following the clash between staff of the ECG and residents of Krobo, lives of the power distribution staff has been under threat with some security officials firing and into residents and killing some during a protest they organised to express their displeasure.

Rather than sitting with the chiefs and residents to explain things to them better, the ECG has attempted imposing prepaid metres on them to share some costs they claim the residents owe. Meanwhile, the ECG has accepted the over biling was a mistake from their outfit.

Meanwhile, Nene has said the ECG “said they’ll restore the power by Thursday or Friday.
