The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has blasted persons in the ruling NPP who have resorted to cheapening John Mahama’s 24-hour economy initiative.

The NDC’s chief spokesperson says the policy is for persons who have deep critical thinking to appreciate.

Speaking Thursday, November 23, 2023, Sammy Gyamfi said the policy cannot be comprehended by people who possess lazy minds.

“The 24-hour economy is a product of deep innovative thinking. It is not for lazy minds who only care about lying and scamming people for votes like Bawumia to understand.

“Neither is it for comical minds who are only experts in economic mismanagement to understand. It’s for discerning minds to understand, that’s why all discerning minds are embracing the policy,” he indicated.

Mr. Gyamfi, who appeared on a panel discussion with National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah, was livid the latter attacked persons like the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress and others for extolling the 24-hour economy proposal.

He questioned Mr. Ahiagbah’s know-how in employment issues, adding that the likes of “The Federation of Labour and Chamber for Local Governance have both issued a statement in support of the policy including chiefs.”

Sammy Gyamfi said the lack of understanding of the policy on the part of persons like Mr. Ahiagbah is making him cheapen “the discourse reducing it to chop bars operating in the night.”

On the part of the support given to the idea so far, the Chamber for Local Governance (ChaLoG) lauded John Dramani Mahama for proposing the 24-hour economy and asked Ghanaians to support it to deepen the nation’s democracy.

The Chamber says it is “convinced beyond reasonable doubt, that the Policy is sound, pragmatic and properly thought through.

“It is against this backdrop, that ChaloG wishes to call on all well-meaning Ghanaians, to fully endorse and embrace the 24-hour Economy Policy, to help expand the frontiers of local governance and further deepen decentralisation in Ghana.”

In a statement issued Wednesday, November 22, 2023, it consented with the Trades Union Congress’s description of the policy as a game-changer that’s needed to foster local governance and development.
