Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has thanked all for the messages of support following reports of an attack on him by a Black Stars supporter.

The attack was reported on Monday, January 15 at the team’s hotel following Ghana’s 1-2 loss to Cape Verde in their opening game at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The fan, who was not named, is reported to have confronted the Irishman over his selection and substitutions.

The fan is said to have been arrested by the police in La Cote d’Ivoire.

At the pre-match press conference ahead of the Egypt clash, Chris Hughton expressed appreciation to the tons of messages of support he has had since the incident was widely reported in the media.

He, however, pleaded with journalists to restrict their questions to the Egypt game on Thursday.

“I also very much appreciate the levels of support that I have had but in a press conference where I think we are looking forward to the next game,” he said.

“I think it’s something very much in the past. It has had a lot media coverage. I thank everybody for the messages and messages of support.

“I think today is a day we have to very much look forward to a very competitive game we have tomorrow but again I understand the question and I thank everybody for their support.”
